Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in the Cornell Real Estate Review. The Review is a student-managed publication charged with advancing key issues confronting the real estate industry. The Review welcomes well-researched, current articles from professors, practitioners, and students. Submissions accepted for publication will be published online as soon as practicable editing. Some of these articles will also be reproduced in the annual print edition, with a circulation exceeding 1,500.
All accepted articles will become part of a permanent, searchable database hosted by the Cornell University Library. The Editorial Board reviews all submissions and will notify the author(s) of acceptance or provide revision recommendations in approximately 6-8 weeks upon receipt. Articles are accepted for review throughout the year. However, the deadline for consideration in Volume 8 (2010) of the print edition is February 15, 2010.
Submissions are encouraged for the following categories:
Articles
Author(s) will describe and analyze developments in their areas of expertise or interest as it relates to real estate. Articles should represent original work, ideas or research and will be accepted from faculty, alumni, real estate professionals and graduate students pursuing either a Masters or PhD degree in a real estate-related field. Suggested length is approximately 5,000 words. Please see the Award tab to learn about the award provided for student submissions.
Notes
Author(s) will address a contemporary issue in a field related to real estate. The submission need not represent original research but should cover a detailed review of a topical issue or opinion. Student submissions (PhD, Masters and undergraduate students) are encouraged to work independently or in collaboration with a professor or real estate professional. Submissions may include a review of literature regarding specific issues or outcomes from class-based projects such as design or industry/competition submissions. Suggested length is 2,000 words.
Real Estate in Practice
Author(s) will provide an in-depth analysis of a particular project or case. Student submissions are encouraged and may be the product of a semester project, case study, consultation with industry professional, or internship experience. Suggested length is 1,000-2,000 words.
Popular Press
Author(s) will produce submissions or reviews of current publications or software/web-based applications. This can be strictly related to real estate or constitute more popular works which may be of interest to real estate professionals. Current publications or applications are examined and their strengths and weaknesses analyzed. The suggested length is 300-600 words.
Submission Requirements (under How to Submit an Article)
1. The PRE strongly recommends submitting articles electronically in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Otherwise, the author(s) should submit a double-spaced and page-numbered manuscript.
2. The cover page should contain: the title, all authors, the authors’ affiliations, their mailing addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email addresses.
3. Preference will be given to submitted manuscripts of original research. The names appearing on the article should be those of the individuals who conducted the research.
4. Student author(s) should indicate whether they wish to be considered for the ING Clarion Most Outstanding Student Article Award. Please review the criteria for the award prior to nomination by clicking on the Awards tab of this website.
5. The article should not be under review simultaneously at another journal nor substantially resemble articles that are under review at another journal.
6. Upon acceptance, the author(s) will be requested to sign a publication agreement with a release so that the copyright of the article can be assumed by the Program in Real Estate. (A copy of the agreement is available by request from .) The transfer of copyright will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
